1 in 4 of us experience problems with our psychological (mental) wellbeing at some points in our lives.
Barnsley NHS Talking Therapies provides free, confidential support for individuals dealing with various mental health conditions.

It's a good idea to talk to someone when you're feeling sad or worried. This could be your parents, a teacher, well-being staff at school or Dr.
By getting help, you can learn how to feel better and happier. So, remember, it's okay to ask for help when you're not feeling great inside.

- Samaritans- Whatever you're going through, you can call the Samaritans free any time, from any phone, on 116 123
- MIND in Barnsley - Counselling, support groups and help to get back into work, for people experiencing difficulties with their mental health.
- Rethink- Information and advice about living with schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. They also offer practical help on welfare benefits, community care and debt and carers' rights
- Alright Pal? - If you’re worried about someone with mental health issues or suicidal thoughts, find tips on how to start a conversation, signs to look out for and details about other services that can help on the Alright Pal Website.
- The Barnsley Support Hub - Out-of-hours mental health crisis service. Offers free mental health support to anyone over 18. Open Thursday-Monday, 6pm-11pm. No need for a referral.

Men -
- Andy's Man Club - Peer-to-peer support group for men aged over 18. They meet every Monday night at 7pm (except Bank Holidays) @ The Lightbox Library and Honeywell Sports Centre.
- Reds in the Community : Team Talk - Team Talk supports men’s mental well-being through peer support, sharing experiences, tips and coping mechanisms. Sessions run every Wednesday night, 6pm to 7.30pm at Oakwell in the Indoor Centre. Ring 01226 211333.
Women -
- Dearne Womens Support Group -
DWSG is a social group in the Dearne Area for women aged 18 - 55, provided by NHS social prescribers.The group is open to all women, but may be especially suitable for you if:
- You are feeling lonely or isolated
- You are a single parent, and finding it tough
- You are going through a hard time at home
- You need a good chat and are interested in making new friends
- Work full time but feel alone
- Need help and advice in a friendly group setting.

- Compass Be - Compass Be helps children & young people with low mood: sadness, low motivation, worries, irrational fears and concerns, angry outbursts, pushing boundaries, frustration and distress
- Compass Be Bereavement Support for Young People - Monthly meetings for young people to come together to share their experiences, around death and loss as well as gaining information and support within a safe environment.
- CAMHS- If you have already had support from Compass Be, and you still feel the same talk to CAMHS.
Ring 01226 644829 (CAMHS Barnsley) - Kooth- Download the Kooth app. Online mental health support and counselling for young people in Barnsley aged 11 - 25, read articles written by young people for young people, join discussion boards around anxiety, relationship advice, and stressful days. There's always online support from Kooth team.
- SilverCloud Online Support - If you are aged between 14 and 19, If you can't sleep because you are stressed about exams, feeling anxious on the bus to school, the SilverCloud Online Support programme can help. It will give you tools, exercises and techniques to help you feel better.

Ring 0800 068 4141 - Branching Minds- If you are not sure which mental health service can help, ring Branching Minds. They will listen to you, signpost to the best service for you and your child and talk to you about referral pathways.
Ring 01226 107377 - Barnsley Bereavement Support - Barnsley Bereavement Support Service offers free and confidential support to people to help come to terms with the loss of a loved one. This service offer you a 'safe space' where you can cry without upsetting those close to you and where you can talk about the way you really feel in complete confidence.
Ring 01226 200565 - Early Support Hub: HOME Barnsley - ‘HOME (Help with Our Mental ‘Ealth), Barnsley is Chilypep’s early support hub for young people aged 11 – 25 from Barnsley who have identified they are struggling with their mental health. HOME runs a wellbeing programme including groups, 1-2-1 support, counselling and workshops. If you think you need some mental health or emotional wellbeing support complete the referral form or find out more by visiting the website.
Ring 01226 213123 or email HOME@chilypep.org.uk - Open Up Directory - The Open Up Directory, developed by Chilypep in 2018 alongside young people, is a vital resource listing mental health services available to those aged 11-25 across Barnsley and into South Yorkshire. Updated regularly, the directory includes categorised sections that address key areas of mental health support, such as crisis support, LGBTQ+ support, and support for Bullying and abuse. The directory has also been expanded into the Open Up Interactive Map, allowing young people to easily access and connect with this tailored support with pinpointed locations of where the organisations are based. This centralised resource is essential in supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of young people by providing a clear pathway to access the support they need, all in one place.
